RE: Minutes of Alumni Meeting of November 9, 1998

Meeting at Da Fwat House at 7:15pm Attended by: AH, KD, BD, KO.

OLD BUSINESS

1. Abe Lighthall Bursary
   
• Al Nemetz received a letter from UBC Senate indicating that the changes to the Lighthall Bursary were not accepted. The reason for this decision was that the proposed award would only be available to male students.
  
• The bursary will remain as a $150 annual award with the same existing criteria as in the past.
  
• Al Nemetz's foundation is willing to contribute the $150 annual donation each year.
  
2. Christmas Cocktail Party
• Phone numbers are known for about 93 alumni members who don't have e-mail. Phone list was distributed to all in attendance. Each of us responsible for phoning about one quarter of the list.
  
• Remaining alumni with e-mail will receive message this week.
  
• HE still out of town on business. Should be back in about a week or two.
  
• KD to contact Brad Hawthorn for any pointers on planning for the party.
  
• KD to touch base with HE and Scott Groves when HE returns.
  

NEW BUSINESS

1. Financial Report
   
• Funds will be transferred to Levesque Securities in order to get a 4 ‡ % interest rate.
  
• Transfer forms were signed by BD, KD and AH.
  
2. chief's Biography
   
• AH understood that the active chapter was compiling information for the biography; however, Bryce & Martin indicated that noone is working on it.
  
• Jeff Breadner may know something about it. Therefore, AH will contact JB.
  
• It was agreed that the alumni chapter should compile the biography. AH volunteered to complete this task.
  
3. House Liason Position
   
• Roger Petterson is in Calgary for next few weeks.
  
• BD contacted Roger and found that he doesn't believe he can complete the tasks for this position.
  
• KO volunteered to take over this position.
  
• KO will arrange an inspection of the house which should include the house structure, electrical, plumbing, roof, etc.
  
4. Mary Gillespie Memorial Award
   
• AH to update application form and print out copies.
  
• Copies to be distributed at active meeting in next couple of weeks.
  
5. Next Meeting
   
• November 30th at Delanie's Pub on Kingsway in Burnaby.
