National Convention
KD reported that convention was awesome.
National is creating a new paid intern position ($2500/term). The intern will handle administrative duties, merchandise, forms and data on the web site.
Alpha Omega Epsilon sorority has adopted all of Sigma Phi Delta's policies, constitution, statutory code, etc.
National is offering grants to chapters for expansion efforts.
The fraternity's 75th anniversary is in 1999 and the convention will be hosted by Alpha Chapter:
Free flights for charter members.
Biggest gathering of fraternity members ever.
Reunion to coincide with convention.
Anticipated 500 to 800 people at convention banquet.
Corporate sponsors required.
Fraternity merchandise orders to be filled to get volume discounts.
Date of reunion to be set soon.
Theta Chapter is the strongest chapter right now.
Abe Lighthall Bursary
AH and KD met with Al Nemetz on July 9th, 1998. Al agreed to make a $5000 contribution as a foundation for the award. He was to inquire about making candidates write a letter to the faculty for eligibility.
The final wording of the award was modified to: "ÖThe award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty to a student who shows leadership in student affairs. Consideration is also given to scholastic standing and the financial circumstances of the recipient."
Al Nemetz has written a cheque to UBC for $5000. However, modifications to award need to be verified by Senate. Senate meets in September.
There's a possibility that changes won't be approved. Therefore, award will stay as a $300 per year donation made by the Nemetz Foundation.
Al Nemetz's Stuff
RP to contact Jeff Breadner and meet with Al.
