Meeting minutes for August 12, 2002

Present: Kevin Deane-Freeman (President), Jan Erik Laursen (Vice President), Tyler Borges (Social Coordinator), Brent Dozzi (Business Manager), Edmund Gin (Secretary), Chad Brown (House Liaison), Peter Celler, Bryce Bendickson, Adam LaRusic, Heiko Epkens.

Late: Chris Baker

Apologies: Darren Farnworth (Western Province Councillor)

As a quorum was achieved, the meeting was called to order at 7:01pm.

1. Executive Reports:
• House Liaison
• Finances doing well - funds at same level as at before taxes
• House debts down to $21000
• Business Manager
  • $579.79 in Operating Account, dues not debited yet.
  • Expect balance to be around $300 after dues are calculated.
  • $0 for House Account - all taxes and bills paid
  • $4739 for House Maintenance Fund
  • Mutual fund had small gain (around $37), balance at around $13000 as at March, 2002
  • Reiterated AGM action item re: talking to Brother Art Rennison

2. North Shore Crawl

TBorges finalized date for Sept 14th - an e-mail with details to be sent out shortly. There will be 13 stops, starting at 11:00am at the Troller in Horseshoe Bay, and ending whenever the staff at the Raven in Deep Cove kicks us out. JMalcolm has offered his place for people to stay at after the Raven. TBorges to look at a possibility of a bus vs. Actives driving.

3. Newsletter

KDeane-Freeman requested spews - hoping to get newsletter out in September. TBorges asked if there was a possibility that the publishing date could be held until after the Crawl. Response was affirmative. JBreadner was first to provide an article.

4. Permanent e-mail Project

JBreadner, although unable to attend the meeting, provided the following report via e-mail:

"
• The computer that Fish has donated has been set up hardware-wise; NT4 Server has been installed and the Mail server software (MDaemon 5.x) will be put on and set up this week.  The system is targeted to be installed and running by the end of next weekend (18 August).
• An article outlining the system has been submitted to Ead.
• I'll be setting up accounts and group lists over the course of the week, and it will be helpful to have membership lists with nicknames, plus officer lists for actives and alumni."

5. October/November Meetings

It was noted by EGin that the second Monday of both October and November are statutory holidays, and may pose a problem for the meeting. By general concensus, the meeting day for these two months have been moved to the third Monday of the month.

6. PCeller's Going Away Party

PCeller announced that since he was going to Germany for a couple of years to pursue a Master's Degree, he planned to have a party sometime early September, since his flight leaves September 11th. He was planning for September 7th. ALaRusic suggested the Atlantic Trap and Gill, since his band (Skystone) was playing there that night. Details to follow via e-mail.

7. CBrown's BBQ at the House

CBrown recently went fishing, and brought back a big salmon, and was planning on throwing a BBQ party at the House. Potluck dinner - details to follow via e-mail. Aiming for August 16th.
