RE: Minutes of Alumni Meeting of March 19, 1998
Meeting at Brent Dozzi's residence at 8:00 PM.
Attended by: AH, BD, BH.
OLD BUSINESS
Abe Lighthall Bursary
In previous minutes, this bursary was referred to as the "John" Lighthall Bursary. For the record, this bursary is in the memory of Professor "Abe" Lighthall.
AH contacted Bob Greene. He mentioned that Abe Lighthall was a faculty member of the fraternity. He doesn't recommend that the award be terminated.
AH contacted Bert Shore. Abe's son is Charles "The Duke" Lighthall. Abe was senior founding member of Tau Omega (former society to SPD). The bursary was likely initiated around 1948. Bert recommended contacting Bern Bernelson (MMPE) for more information in regards to the bursary; Bern was likely involved in starting the award.
AH tried to contact Bern, but no current phone number was available.
BH contacted Al Nemetz. He mentioned that his charity could take over the annual payment for the Lighthall Bursary. He could handle an amount up to $500. Money has to be given to a recognized charity. He will be at AGM to discuss further.
