RE:
Minutes of Alumni Meeting of March 2, 1998 Meeting at Roger Pettersson's residence at 5:30 PM. Attended by: AH, BD, RP.
NEW BUSINESS
Chief's Award
Applications were received from David Beleznay and Don Nash.
David's application was incomplete and considered to be invalid.
Don had an excellent application and was chosen to be the successful candidate. He will receive a $150 cheque.
AH will write a congratulatory letter to be included with the cheque upon presentation of the award.
A comment should be made at the Fraternity Formal that applications must be complete to be considered valid.
Mary Turner letter
A letter was received from Mrs. Turner, the wife of Ron Turner.
Ron Turner was sent a January newsletter.
The letter from Mrs. Turner request that no more correspondence be sent to Mr. Turner.
Treasurer's Report
Today's balance: $1553.49
Received about $670 from Superbowl Party.
There was a negative balance on the House account due to the increasing cost of property taxes. This balance was paid out.
The main alumni operating account has a balance of about $580.
The house maintenance account has a balance of about $900
John Lighthall Bursary
Presently, the award does not go to a fraternity member, but rather a male engineering undergraduate.
The Vancouver alumni chapter has NO control over the selection of the successful recipient.
It was agreed that the alumni chapter should be able to choose the candidate. The candidate should be an active SPD fraternity member.
AH to contact Bob Greene and other alumni to determine the heritage of the award.
BH to contact Al Nemetz in regards to his charity taking over the annual payment for the Lighthall Bursary.
A discussion at the AGM should be conducted to determine whether the award should be continued or if another award should be created.
Money will not be sent to UBC for this year's award until a decision is made at the AGM.
Summer BBQ
A summer event should be planned to get all of the alumni out.
This event would be organized by a newly elected Social Coordinator at the AGM.
Families would be invited and the event should take place at the fwat house.
Next Meeting
Agenda will focus on planning the AGM.
March 13th at 8:00 p.m. Meet at the fwat house. Adjourn to Culpeppers.
The minutes above are correct to the best of my knowledge.
